Wedding at Cardiff Museum

This weekend was a busy one. We played two weddings, Friday at Cardiff Museum and Saturday at De Courceys Manor. Both were loads of fun but Friday was special!

Laura and Joe got married at Cardiff Museum on Friday and they invited us to play at their wedding. Joe wanted to surprise Laura by singing their first dance: Can't Nobody Love You - Solomon Burke. Great tune!
So we organised a secret rehearsal with Joe the day before. He came around our rehearsal studio (none of his friends knew about this...) and rehearsed the first dance ready for the big day. It was so much fun!
For us, this was the highlight of the wedding. Laura didn't expect it at all! We called the couple on the dancefloor and just when they were ready to start dancing Joe step forward, grabbed the mic and started singing. He did such a great job! When he finished, he joined Laura while we jammed the song and Nicky took a couple of choruses at the end. All their friends and family joined too. The day after Joe wrote this to us:

Many thanks to you and Laura for inviting us to play at your wedding!

Meeting before the big day is a great idea because it allows us to break the ice with our clients so during the wedding we already know each other and everything feels more personal. Never hesitate on asking us for a quick chat or meeting before your wedding, we are always happy to arrange a meeting!

Also in September we have a nice surprise coming up. Stay tuned on the Soul Lotta Funk news channel!

Live from the Kingscote Barn, Tetbury

Last Saturday we travelled to Tetbury to play for James and Laura who got married at the beautiful Kingscote Barn.
This is a converted barn secretly located in a valley within the Cotswold Hills, an area declared of outstanding beauty. Just the drive down the little road to the barn was breathtaking, even with a foul weather. The barn was lit with small candles outside and inside giving it a warm welcoming look.

From the get go we felt really relaxed in there and the couple, James and Laura, took care of us in every moment. Jose met them months prior to the wedding to discuss some details with them and that really helped!

The couple had a 'no social media' policy which we thought it was great. Nobody was allowed to post on social media until the day after. Nowadays we all spend to much time on our phones and sometimes we miss good moments by trying to capture them on our phones. It's like in live concerts where you have members of the crowd looking at the actual concert through their phones. This was great, so on their first dance everyone was paying attention to James and Laura dancing to a beautiful version of Wicked Game (original by Chris Isaak).
The first dance finished followed by the chords of Free Fallin' by Tom Petty. Laura called her dad to the dancefloor... he didn't expected that at all! It was a wonderful moment and everybody joined them. And after that... we started playing, opening with Stevie Wonder's classic: Signed Sealed Delivered.

We would like to thank Richard Boucher, who was covering for Joe on the bass. He brought a GoPro, took this footage and shared it. It will give you an idea of what goes on at a Soul Lotta Funk's wedding from our perspective.

We had a great time playing for James, Laura and all their friends and family. We also saw Carly and Chris who we played for on their wedding at the Rosedew Farm back two years ago.  They are now expecting a baby! Congratulations guys! So good to see you :)

We wish James and Laura all the best together! Thank you again for inviting us to play for you, it was a great night.
